Have you ever dreamed of driving through clouds, with snowy peaks on both sides and endless valleys below? That dream becomes real at Guozigou Bridge in Xinjiang.
As we cross this awe-inspiring structure, it's more than a journey—it's an unforgettable experience between heaven and earth. Let’s explore everything we need to know to plan a perfect trip to this incredible spot.

What Is Guozigou Bridge and Why Is It So Famous?

Guozigou Bridge, located in Huocheng County, is the first cable-stayed highway bridge in Xinjiang and a key part of the G30 Lianhuo Expressway and Asian Highway Route 5. It officially opened on September 30, 2011, and immediately drew attention for its bold design. The bridge spans 700 meters, with a main span of 360 meters and two giant towers rising over 200 meters high. What's most impressive is its height—sitting 200 meters above the deep Guozigou Valley, offering breathtaking views of forests, mountains, and clouds.

How Do We Get There?

Reaching Guozigou Bridge is easiest by car. Here’s how:
- From Yining: It’s around 80 km, a scenic 1.5-hour drive northeast along the G30 highway.
- From Urumqi: The drive is longer—about 600 km or 8 hours, so we recommend making it part of a longer road trip through northern Xinjiang.
- Public transportation doesn’t go directly to the bridge, but some local tours from Yining may offer day trips. Renting a car remains the most flexible option.

Do We Need Tickets?

There is no separate entrance ticket for Guozigou Bridge since it is part of a public expressway. However, cars traveling on this section of the G30 Lianhuo Expressway need to pay a toll fee, usually $3–$5 USD for standard vehicles. There’s no fee to stop at nearby viewpoints.

When Should We Visit?

The best time to visit Guozigou Bridge is from June to October. During these months, the mountains are green, the skies are clear, and the valleys are full of wildflowers. In contrast, winter brings heavy snow and possible road closures due to icy conditions, so it's better to avoid a visit from November to March.

Where Can We View the Bridge?

Since stopping directly on the expressway is not allowed, the best way to admire the bridge is from scenic platforms:
- Guozigou Observation Deck: Located just off the expressway, it offers a panoramic view of the bridge stretching over the valley. It’s a must-stop for photography lovers.
- Sayram Lake Road: This nearby scenic road gives distant but stunning views of the bridge against the snow-capped Tianshan Mountains.

Nearby Places to Add to Our Trip

- Sayram Lake: Just 40 km away, this alpine lake is famous for its crystal-clear water and blue horizon. A great spot for picnics and sunrise photography.
- Naraty Grassland : About 3 hours' drive away, it's perfect for horseback riding and soaking in vast landscapes.
- Huocheng Lavender Fields: If we come in late June to early July, we can catch beautiful blooming lavender fields along the way.

Travel Tips for a Smooth Experience

1. Fuel up in Yining before heading out, as gas stations are limited on the route.
2. Start early in the morning to avoid highway fog and get the best light for photos.
3. Bring warm clothes, even in summer. The valley is high-altitude and the weather can change quickly.
4. Use offline navigation apps like Baidu Maps or Gaode, since cell signal may drop in the mountains.
5. Respect local customs, as the region has diverse ethnic cultures.

Is It Worth the Trip?

Absolutely! Guozigou Bridge is not just a piece of infrastructure—it’s a symbol of Xinjiang’s natural beauty and human achievement. We’re not just driving across steel and cables; we’re crossing into one of the most breathtaking corners of western China. Whether we're road trippers, photography fans, or just lovers of stunning landscapes, this place speaks to our sense of wonder.
