Have you ever wanted to see Nanjing from a breathtaking height while learning something new? The Jiangsu Television Tower, also called Zijin Tower, is exactly that place for us.
Standing tall at 318.5 meters, it’s the tallest tower in Jiangsu province and the tenth tallest in China. Since its completion in 1995, it has become a symbol of modern Nanjing and a must-visit spot for tourists and locals alike.

Getting There: Convenient Transportation Options

Getting to the tower is easy. If we’re traveling by bus in Nanjing, the 302 bus stops at Shitoucheng North Station, just a short walk from the tower. Alternatively, buses 45, 47, 66, 72, 73, 170, and You4 stop at Jiasheng Garden Station, from where we head south along Shitoucheng Road to reach the tower. The address is No. 118, Shitoucheng, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. If you’re planning a trip, consider using local buses or taxis for convenience.

Opening Hours and Ticket Information

The tower welcomes visitors every day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, providing ample time to explore both the tower and its surrounding areas. Tickets currently cost around 20 Chinese Yuan (approximately $3 USD), making it an affordable outing for families, solo travelers, and groups. Keep in mind that prices may vary slightly with time or special events, so checking in advance is a good idea.

Explore the Tower’s Unique Architecture

The tower’s design is truly eye-catching, featuring three strong “legs” supporting the main structure with open spaces between them, which gives it a majestic yet elegant look. The tower is composed of a base, six box-shaped beams, one ring beam, and two “flying saucer” shaped observation decks—one large and one small—floating in the air. The base houses the Jiangsu Science Palace, a huge space dedicated to science education.

Experience the Observation Decks and Scenic Views

We can take a high-speed elevator traveling at 6 meters per second to reach the observation decks. The large deck is between 169 to 201 meters high and includes indoor observation halls, open corridors, a rotating 40-meter diameter two-floor hall (called the “Rotating Palace”), and outdoor platforms. The rotation takes 60 to 90 minutes for a full turn, giving us plenty of time to admire panoramic views.
From up here, the views are spectacular: we see the majestic Zhong Mountain, the bridge connecting north and south, the winding Qinhuai River, the mighty Yangtze River flowing with waves, the modern skyline of the western residential district, the beautiful Yuejiang Tower, and the historic charm of the Six Dynasties Ancient Capital. The smaller observation deck at 250 meters offers a quieter atmosphere for a peaceful visit.

Discover the Jiangsu Science Palace

The tower’s base houses the Jiangsu Science Palace, a national-level science education base and patriotic education site covering over 6,000 square meters. Inside, there are five themed exhibition zones: Technology & Wisdom, Exploration & Discovery, Digital & Information, Ecology & Home, and Life & Health. Nearly 300 science exhibits are on display, including interactive and hands-on activities. It also features a science theater, 4D cinema, experimental areas, and spaces for temporary exhibitions and training.

Best Time to Visit and Practical Tips

For the best experience, visiting on a clear day is recommended, especially during spring and autumn when the weather is mild. Early mornings or weekdays usually have fewer visitors, allowing us to enjoy the space without crowds. Don’t forget to bring a camera or smartphone to capture the amazing cityscapes.
Wear comfortable shoes as there is a lot to explore both inside the Science Palace and around the tower grounds. Since the tower has elevators, it is accessible for most visitors. Check the official website or local sources for any updates on opening hours or special exhibitions.

Additional Facilities and Amenities

Besides sightseeing, the tower offers several other facilities: exhibition halls, entertainment rooms, multi-purpose halls, open-air stages, and a water fountain plaza. These spaces are perfect for family outings or educational visits. The tower combines advanced technology with rich cultural content, making it both an informative and enjoyable destination.

Why Jiangsu Television Tower Should Be Your Next Stop

Visiting Jiangsu Television Tower allows us to enjoy the perfect mix of Nanjing’s rich history, beautiful nature, and cutting-edge technology in one place. The stunning views from the observation decks and the engaging science exhibitions both offer memorable experiences.
